Moved from NC—> LI, NY for work, having regrets/ feeling isolated

I (25) moved to Long Island from North Carolina because of work around 2 months ago now. I dont know what I was expecting, but this definitely wasnt it. Im in Long Island, which Im guessing has alot to do with it from what ive heard, when I was offered the transfer I truthfully knew nothing about it but figured it probably had as much to offer if not more as Charlotte, North Carolina.</p> <p>Honestly, im feeling very disappointed, and alone. Most people here are older adults or seniors. Ive tried going out at East Patchogue and Port Jeff, to bars and the like, but I havent met anyone or had anyone talk to me. Again people are mostly older adults, but once it was a room full of young college kids im assuming from Stony Brook, and I felt so out of place I just left. </p> <p>I know for most things you have to go into the city, but the two hour commute to and from, either via the train or driving, has just gotten so tiring and stressful sometimes it doesnt even feel worth it. Ive ventured into Brooklyn and Manhattan looking for things to do, or going to bars in the hopes of meeting people, and I never do. People never talk to me and I guess vice versa, I know I could approach but people seem to already be in groups/ dont really want to be approached by strangers. </p> <p>Another thing ive really been sad about is missing nature in NC. The mountains are right there, with plenty of lakes and creeks at every corner. Honestly, besides the ocean, Long Island has been pretty dreary and I hate to say it, even ugly. Ive checked out some parks, one in Babylon and another near Conettequot, they are nice but usually just small trickles of creeks, nothing I can sit next to or feel the water in. I dont know. Im trying hard to be positive or find a way to enjoy where Im at— its difficult because my long distance girlfriend is moving to another city in North Carolina with p
