The fork’s oldest settlement, a quiet North Fork base for farm-to-table weekends.
Southold is the North Fork's deepest-rooted town, settled in 1640 and still running at a historical-village pace. The town opted out of dispensaries in 2021, so the licensed stop for adults 21+ happens in Riverhead or Calverton. Weekenders treat it as a base for the farm stands and oyster farms east from here. Year-round population keeps enough open in the off-season that it doesn't go full ghost-town the way some of the Hamptons does, which matters for a November weekend.
