Jones Beach is Robert Moses' 1929 barrier-beach state park and one of the most visited day-trip beaches in the country, with the Jones Beach Theater pulling a summer concert calendar of arena-scale tours. Because it's state-owned land, New York state law prohibits cannabis consumption on state-owned land and in public spaces, which is non-negotiable on the sand, the boardwalk, and the theater grounds. Adults 21+ who pair cannabis with a Jones Beach day tend to consume on the drive out at a private rental or at home afterward rather than at the beach itself. Licensed retail sits on the mainland towns north and east of the causeway.
