Weed delivery to Fire Island is the question every summer share house eventually asks, and the answer holds year-round: as of 2026, licensed cannabis delivery stops at the Great South Bay. There is no licensed dispensary on the island, the state's delivery rules are written for roads, at least one of the Island's largest delivery operators excludes it by name, and most of it is a national park where federal law governs. For adults 21+ with a Fire Island stay on the calendar, here is how each of those pieces works.
No shop on the island
The Office of Cannabis Management's license data, updated in October 2026, lists no licensed retailer anywhere on Fire Island: not in Ocean Beach, Saltaire, Kismet, Cherry Grove, the Pines or Davis Park. The mainland towns facing the island don't help much either. Bay Shore and Sayville, two of the main ferry ports, are in the Town of Islip, which opted out of dispensaries with a local law adopted in August 2021. In July 2025 the Islip Town Board tabled a proposal to opt back in, and it had not revisited the question as of 2026.
The state's delivery rule is a ground rule
OCM's delivery guidance for consumers says deliveries in New York must be made by ground transportation, and it lists the options: car, van, bike, scooter or on foot. Fire Island is car-free in most communities and reached from the mainland by boat. A licensed courier's route ends where the road does.
The rest of the delivery rules apply everywhere in the state:
- New York addresses only, to a residence, a short- or long-term stay or a private business.
- Never to a park, a beach, a public building or anyone in a car.
- Prepaid only. No cash to the courier.
- ID and a signature at the door, from the buyer or another adult 21+ the buyer names.
- During store hours only.
- The same limits: up to three ounces of flower and 24 grams of concentrated cannabis in a day.
The shops draw the same line
Licensed shops publish their own delivery footprints, and the biggest ones on the Island say it plainly. Strain Stars, which runs stores in Farmingdale and Riverhead, lists its delivery radius as Nassau and Suffolk excluding the Hamptons and Fire Island, with a $125 minimum before tax. Other shops list the mainland communities they serve; Long Island Cannabis Club in Deer Park, for example, names Sayville, Patchogue, East Islip and Bohemia among them, all on the mainland side of the bay. Check any shop's delivery page at checkout, where the address either qualifies or it doesn't.
The federal layer
Most of Fire Island is Fire Island National Seashore, a unit of the National Park Service established in 1964. Seventeen communities had already been built on the island by then, and the park's enabling law let them remain under zoning standards, which is why the island is a patchwork of private villages and federal parkland.
The Park Service is direct about cannabis. Its Laws and Policies page says New York's legalization has no bearing on federal law, and that possession or use of any amount of marijuana is prohibited in the Seashore, its facilities, concessions and campgrounds, on federal lands and waters. The listed penalty is a fine of up to $5,000 for an individual, up to six months in jail, or both. Which ground is federal on a given stretch of the island is the Park Service's map to read, and its pages are the place to check ahead of a trip.
The car-accessible western end is different again. Robert Moses State Park is state land, and the state rule applies there.
About the services that say they deliver
Fire Island searches turn up phone numbers and social accounts promising delivery to the island. Any service bringing cannabis across the bay by boat is not working under the delivery rules OCM describes, and a seller that doesn't trace back to a business on the state's list isn't licensed. Verify licensed status via the OCM QR code at cannabis.ny.gov: every licensed dispensary must post the state's Dispensary Verification Tool near its main entrance, and OCM's retailer finder at buylegal.cannabis.ny.gov lists every licensed location. Licensed products carry the state's universal symbol and a QR code that links to lab results; unlicensed product carries no such guarantee.
The mainland shops, for reference
The licensed storefronts nearest the ferry ports sit in the two South Shore towns that allowed retail. To the west, the Town of Babylon has shops in Deer Park, East Farmingdale and West Babylon. To the east, the Town of Brookhaven has them in Medford, Farmingville, Coram and Bellport, around the village of Patchogue. The dispensary directory has the current list, and the Bay Shore, Sayville and Patchogue hubs cover the ferry towns.
Sales are for adults 21+ only, with a valid photo ID checked before every sale.
The rule on the sand
Whatever the jurisdiction underfoot, the beach is never the venue. New York state law prohibits cannabis consumption on state-owned land and in public spaces, and that covers the state park beaches, the boardwalks and the ferry terminals, while federal law covers the National Seashore. Village beaches and walkways in Ocean Beach and the other communities are public spaces too.
What it means for your weekend
On Fire Island, licensed cannabis is a mainland question, and the island is mostly a federal park. The Fire Island and Ocean Beach hubs collect the rest of the site's island coverage, and the events hub has what is on along the South Shore.
